Mackenzie Holmes Named Big Ten Freshman Of The Week

Indiana Women’s Basketball ROSEMONT, Ill.  – Indiana Women’s Basketball freshman forward Mackenzie Holmes has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week after an impressive league debut against Michigan State on Saturday.
 
The Gorham, Maine native scored 18 points and went 7-for-8 from the floor in 20 minutes of work against the Spartans. She scored nine of her 18 points in the third quarter where she went 4-for-4 from the field and had a stretch where she scored nine of 11 points for Indiana to take a five-point lead. Holmes scored 12 of her 18 points in the second half and went 4-for-5 at the line for the game and added a block.
 
She is now shooting 67-of-94 (71.3 percent) from the field for the season which is second in the nation and has scored in double-figures in four of her last five games and nine times overall. This is her second Freshman of the Week honor after winning it in week one of the season after averaging 18.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocks in her first two collegiate games against Mt. St. Mary’s and Nicholls State.
