Firecrackers shine in college basketball season debut

Several former Maine Firecrackers made their season debut in college basketball on Friday and Saturday, many logging big minutes in only their freshman and sophomore campaigns.

Below are a few of the highlights from the early part of the weekend:

  • Brown freshman Mary Butler (Bangor) totaled 7 points (3-for-3 from the field), 2 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, and 1 assist on opening night for the Bears. Butler played 16 minutes in the win over Bethune Cookman.
  • Marist sophomore Allie Clement scored 12 points on 5-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-8 from the 3. The former McAuley star added 5 rebounds and 4 assists in 33 minutes of action against South Dakota State.
  • Emmanuel first year guard Olivia Dalphonse (McAuley) recorded 4 points, 3 assists, and 1 steal in a win over over Salve Regina.
  • Victoria Lux (Thornton) scored 7 points and pulled down 7 rebounds in her first game at Bentley. Lux made 3-of-6 field goal attempts in 20 minutes of play against Holy Family.
  • Freshman Ashley Storey (Greely) had 5 points for the University of New Hampshire, on 2-of-4 from the field, in a win against Colby-Sawyer.
  • Dartmouth sophomore Olivia Smith (McAuley) had 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists in 20 minutes against Drexel.
