Firecrackers ready for 8th-grade AAU National Championships

First game of pool play is Saturday, at ESPN Wide World of Sports

The 8th-grade Maine Firecrackers are headed to Disney World this weekend, but not for the theme parks. No, the team is headed to the AAU Division II National Championships, July 9-13. The Firecrackers qualified for the event by winning the AAU State Championships back on May 1.

The Firecrackers open the 33-team tournament in pool play when they face Pace Elite, from the Florida Panhandle, at 8 AM on Saturday. Game two will follow at 12:15 PM the same day, against Cincy Swish (OH).

Pool play wraps up late Sunday afternoon when the Firecrackers meet the Avalon Lady Wolves (FL) at 5:55 PM. The remainder of the schedule will be determined by wins & losses and seeding from pool play. The tournament champion will be crowned on Wednesday, July 13.

All games will be played at the HP Fieldhouse or the Jostens Center at the spectacular ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
