14U Nationals Tournament – Day One

Firecrackers Open With Easy Win

The Maine Firecrackers 14U team opened up Pool Play today with a convincing win over the PH Silver Bullets (Maryland) 67-20. This game was never close as the Firecrackers jumped out to a 19-2 lead in the first 5 minutes (all 5 starters scored at least 2 baskets each) of the game and never looked back. Both the team and the coaching staff were a bit nervous, having not touched a basketball since last Thursdays practice. However the time off was good for the team as they came out with good energy and ball movement. This resulted in a lot of easy baskets throughout the game. Maintaining our intensity for the entire game was the only challenge. In a game when everyone scored, it was good to get those pre-tournament jitters out of our system and get ready for the challenges ahead.
