Butler nets season high 12 points in Ivy League opener
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior forward Erika Steeves posted a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds, but Brown University women’s basketball fell at Yale University, 77-63, in both teams’ Ivy League opener on Friday afternoon at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
The Bears (12-2, 0-1 Ivy) tied the game at 58-58 with 6:54 to play, but the host Bulldogs (8-6, 1-0 Ivy) responded with a 10-0 run to gain a 68-58 lead with 2:40 remaining.
Steeves notched her fourth double-double of the season and the 13th of her career. She hit 6-of-12 shots from the floor, 2-of-4 shots from 3-point distance, and 4-of-4 free throws.
Sophomore guard Justine Gaziano tallied 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting and six rebounds, and junior guard Shayna Mehta totaled 12 points, five assists, and four rebounds.
Junior forward Mary Butler netted a season-high 12 points for her first game in double figures this season alongside six boards while senior forward Janie White finished with eight points, four boards, three blocks, and three steals.
