Maggie Whitmore receives scholarship offer from Stonehill
Rising South Portland junior visited the Easton, MA, campus on Saturday
Congratulations to Maggie Whitmore and parents Kevin and Michele as she received her first scholarship offer this week from Stonehill College (NCAA Division II, Northeast-10).
A visit to Stonehill and a conversation with head coach Trisha Brown on Saturday morning prior to our weekend games ended in an offer being extended to the rising junior from South Portland. In a recent discussion with Coach Brown, she commented on how much she liked Maggie’s skill set and versatility on both ends of the floor. Coach Briggs commented, “ Maggie has had to deal with some foot issues this spring which has limited her at times. She has worked through those moments, done the work outside of our organized practices, and put herself in a position to be considered for a scholarship.
Stonehill College is an excellent school and has historically been at the top of the standings in the very competitive Northeast 10 conference year in year out.” Coach Brown currently has two Firecrackers on her roster – Kelsey Shaw (junior) and incoming freshman Sophie Glidden. Briggs continued, “ Maggie is the consummate team player. She does all the little things to allow teams to be successful. She is good enough to start on our top team, but has been coming off the bench and has embraced the role which allows us to maximize our team success. She is an absolute pleasure to coach and I look forward to seeing her continued development over her remaining two years of HS.”
With this offer, Maggie becomes the 23rdFirecracker to be offered an athletic scholarship.
Please join me in congratulating Maggie and her family on this accomplishment.
