Brianne Maloney – commits to St. Joseph’s (Maine)
After many months of recruiting, college visits, filling out applications, and the drain of the college decision making “process” Brianne Maloney (South Portland HS) has made the decision to attend St. Joseph’s College in Windham, Maine.
St. Joe’s is considered one of the premier Division III women’s basketball programs not only in Maine but in New England. Led by long-time head coach Mike McDevitt, the Monks won their conference championship this past Saturday (finished with a record of 23-5) and are now looking forward to the start of the NCAA D3 National Tournament.
Brianne recently completed her Senior year at South Portland HS where she led the upstart Lady Riots to a 15-3 regular season record and a number 3 seed in the Western Maine Class A Tournament. She was recently recognized for her play by being selected to the SMAA Third Team and playing in the East/West Class A/B All-Star game this coming Saturday. In addition to her basketball recognition, Brianne is also an outstanding student and was awarded a significant merit scholarship at St. Joe’s.
Brianne is a member of the Maine Firecrackers AAU program and was an integral component on the team that won the AAU Division 2 National Championship as a Freshman (2011) and remains the only girls team in Maine history to win a legitimate AAU National Championship . Coach Briggs commented… “Brianne is going to have an immediate impact at the college level due to her strength, physical play/aggressiveness, and skill set. She is a versatile player that can score facing the basket or create opportunities inside. She is a leader in every sense of the word…an outstanding teammate that plays with passion and heart. I can’t wait to see her compete at the next level!
Coach Clement added, “Brianne has been everything we hope for of players in our program… she is humble, hard- working , enthusiastic, and because of all this she is one of the most beloved members of our program. Brianne Maloney is an excellent role model for our younger players and we wish her all the best as she embarks on the next leg of her journey. Coach McDevitt is getting a good player and a terrific teammate.”
