Poulin makes decision, commits to Assumption

Cheverus rising senior to play for Greyhounds, of the Northeast-10

Congratulations to Emme Poulin (and family) on her recent commitment to Assumption College. Emme joined the Firecracker program as a freshman and fit in right away. Her competitiveness, intensity, and willingness to be coached allowed for a very easy transition. She now joins a growing list of Firecracker players that have received scholarship offers even though they don’t start a game.

“Emme could have gone and played in other programs, been a starter, and played a significant portion of every game. She chose a more challenging path…and because of that I have a lot of respect for who she is and her character”, said Don Briggs her Firecracker coach. “Our society today expects immediate gratification, parents to jump in and save the day”…Briggs continued, “but Emme and her parents (Norm and Leslie) have trusted the process and allowed it to be her experience. Something we just don’t see much of any more. Along her journey, she found out a lot about herself, her love for the game, and what it meant to be a great teammate. She struggled earlier this spring with some back tightness but never wanted to sit out…she persevered. I am so proud of Emme and her realizing her dream of playing college basketball.”

Most of the people that watch HS basketball don’t realize the pressure and scrutiny these kids play under at the events we participate in. Coaches observe everything…how you interact with your teammates and coaches, how you respond to referee’s, missed shots, bad passes, how you act on the bench…it is all being watched. Knowing that and having to perform creates some level of angst. But in the biggest weekend of Emme’s young career, knowing the school she wanted to go to was there watching her (and 2 other players that we played against in the event) and would be offering a scholarship following the weekend of games to one of the three players… Emme stepped up and played some of her best basketball of the season. We didn’t change anything, she came off the bench, played her role and took advantage of her opportunity going 12-19 from the three point line over 4 very competitive games.

Great kid and family….humble, hard-working, team oriented…sounds a lot like a player that just graduated from Assumption College – Jackie Storey.

Assumption College plays in the very competitive Northeast 10 conference where they finished last season 19-9 and made their 7th trip to the NCAA tournament.

Emme is the 19th Firecracker to receive a scholarship offer. She is joined by fellow 2018 teammates Alex Hart – Bryant Univ commit, Eva Mazur  and Sophie Glidden (Both with multiple scholarship offers), Megan Graff and Alex Goodman.
