Firecrackers Kelsey Shaw and Sierra Tapley made it official Wednesday afternoon, signing their NCAA national letters of intent at Mt. Desert Island High School. Shaw will attend Stonehill College and Tapley is headed to the University of Maine, both on full athletic scholarships.

In early August the 5’10 Shaw verbally committed to head coach Trisha Brown of the Stonehill Skyhawks. Located in Easton, MA, Stonehill is a long standing member of the highly competitive Northeast-10 conference. Shaw was also offered scholarships by Assumption and St. Michael’s.

At MDI, Shaw averaged 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists per game on her way to being named to the All-Big East First Team. A National Honor student as well, Shaw is currently ranked in the top 10 in her class academically.

Tapley, a 5’7 guard, had offers from St. Anselm, Assumption, and Merrimack of the Northeast 10 and was also being heavily courted by Army and Bryant. But in the end, the opportunity to play in her home state led her to accept a scholarship from Coach Barron and the Black Bears.

Tapley was the Big East Player of the Year and was a Bangor Daily News 3rd team All-State selection. She averaged 16.3 points, 4 assists, and 3.5 steals per game for Mt. Desert Island.

Shaw and Tapley led MDI to an 18-0 regular season record in 2014-15.
