Shaw, Tapley, Willerson among Miss Maine Basketball finalists

Ashley Storey and Allie Clement won the award in 2015 and 2014, respectively

Firecrackers Kelsey Shaw, Sierra Tapley and Jess Willerson are among a group of 10 semifinalists announced on Wednesday for the 2016 Miss Maine Basketball award.

Shaw and Tapley are teammates at Mt. Desert Island High School and are headed to Maine and Stonehill, respectively, on full basketball scholarships. Willerson, a 6’1 senior at Catherine McAuley High School, will attend Cornell in the fall.

The Miss Basketball Award is presented each year to the senior player who has exhibited outstanding skills throughout her career, has made a significant impact on her team, has demonstrated respect for the game through leadership on and off the court, has epitomized the values of sportsmanship and has been a positive school and community citizen.

The top three vote-getters will be announced as finalists for the award after the state tournaments. The winner will be announced at the Maine McDonald’s High School Senior All-Star Banquet on March 11 at Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
