Vicky Lux, Allie Clement and Olivia Smith were all recognized in the SMAA end of season honors.

As the 2011-2012 high school basketball season is now behind us, the Maine Firecrackers were well represented as a number of players received end of season honors.

While we are highlighting the Firecracker players below, it isn’t lost on the many others that have competed side by side with them in practice and games every spring/summer. Without each one of them coming to practice and pushing each other to excel results like this would not be possible.

A quick note regarding the significance of what is noted below. The Firecracker program only has players in two age groups currently playing in HS, so the impact of what was achieved is substantial. Of the 7 players on the 15U team that played this past season 4 are listed below with 2 of the remaining 3 their teams leading scorer. Of the three teams (1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the SMAA) no other sophomore or freshmen other than Firecracker players were selected and 4 of the 5 on the Rookie Team. When looked at from that perspective…it is an amazing accomplishment.

Today we recognize the following Firecrackers:-

Southern Maine Athletic Association (SMAA):

  •  Allie Clement (Soph) – First Team
  •  Olivia Smith (Soph) – Second Team
  •  Ashley Briggs (Freshman) – Third Team

All Rookie Team: (which includes all first year Varsity players except Seniors)

  •  Katie McCrum (Freshman)
  •  Vic Lux (Freshman)
  •  Olivia Dalphonse (Freshman)
  •  Ashley Briggs (Freshman)

All Defensive Team:

  •  Allie Clement

Western Maine Conference (WMC):

  •  Nina Davenport (Soph) – First Team
  •  Ashley Storey (Freshman) – Second Team

“To see the impact that not only the players being recognized above have made, but the many others within our program, continues to reinforce our approach and emphasis on developing skills and the IQ of the entire player”, said Coach Briggs. He continued by saying, “having so many athletes playing significant roles for their high school teams, leading them in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals, etc. does not happen by accident. The commitment these young ladies have made to the game of basketball and to achieve that level of impact at such an early age speaks volumes about their character and work ethic.”
