Obar Commits to Brandeis
Mollie Obar received the great news of her Early Decision acceptance to Brandeis University this week and communicated her interest to play basketball for the Judges next season. She has played for the Firecrackers since fourth grade and for most of those years has played for Coach Brian Blethen, who said “I’ve had the privilege to watch Mollie grow since the fourth grade. She has put the time in on the court and in the classroom and has earned this moment. Brandeis is fortunate to land Mollie and I look forward to following her college career.”
Obar was one of the leading three point shooters in the Western Maine Conference last year, registering 26 made treys and shooting 40% from beyond the arc while hauling in 3.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game in helping her Greely team to the top seed in Southern Class A. The Rangers lost in the Southern Maine Finals, finishing 19-2.
Brandeis University is located in Waltham, MA and finished 13-12 last season. They are coached by Carol Simon, who played at Colby with Mollie’s mother, Sue Whittum Obar (‘88). Mollie will be conveniently located down the street from her older sister Brooke Obar, who is also going to school in Waltham, at Bentley University, where she has teamed up with Firecracker Maggie Whitmore. Carpooling possibilities will be endless.
