Glory Commits to Coast Guard Academy
Longtime Firecracker Glory Blethen made her decision official today by telling the Coast Guard Academy in the phonic alphabet “Alpha Mike Alpha November = I’m In!”
Blethen grew up in the Firecracker Family- her Dad (Brian) coached the class of ‘21 for many years and her sister (Faith) played on one of the top Firecracker teams ever and is currently a captain at George Washington. Glory began wearing her orange uniform in 4th grade and has always had a love of the water and boating, instilled by her father (21 years in Coast Guard Reserves) and grandfather, who was a legendary lobsterman in Boothbay Harbor. She is also following in the footsteps of her mother (Leslie) who served her country in the Army for ten years.
A 6’2” Forward, Blethen is a versatile forward with excellent speed who led Boothbay Harbor to a State Championship in 2019. Last season, she averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Seahawks while being named First Team All Conference and All State by the Bangor Daily News.
After careful consideration of US Merchant Marine Academy and Assumption, Blethen informed Head Coach Alex Ivanscheck of her decision to bring her talents to New London, CT. Coast Guard plays in the NEWMAC and finished 15-10 last season.
Firecracker Co-Founder Brian Clement said, “I have had the pleasure to watch Glory grow and flourish from a young girl to a mature young woman with a wonderful enthusiasm for life the whole time. To know Glory is to like Glory and in addition to being a joy to coach, she is a talented player who I believe will make an instant impact at the Academy.”
