Firecrackers Shine in Local Tournament

 

The winning South Portland team from the CMCC Thanksgiving tournament featured 4 Firecracker players.

 

Four members of the Maine Firecrackers AAU team were an integral part of a CMCC Thanksgiving Classic Championship played in Auburn this weekend. Lydia Henderson, Kaylin Malmquist, Grace Soucy, and Eva Mazur all excelled on a South Portland team coached by Rob Soucy. The Riots outlasted Falmouth 37-18 in the final game.

Playing three games Sunday to advance to the final, the Falmouth team was represented well by Firecrackers Alaina and Natalie Birkel.

South Portland’s defense was tenacious as they defeated Mountain Valley and Turner to get to the final. Eva Mazur was awarded the Most Valuable Player of the tournament for her outstanding play while Lydia Henderson, Kaylin Malmquist, and Grace Soucy all played very well on both sides of the ball throughout the tournament.
