Firecracker Emily Esposito Receives D1 Offer

Emily Esposito became the 9th Maine Firecracker to be offered a scholarship when the University of Maine professed their interest in her services today. Esposito is only the second member of the program and is believed to be only the second player in Maine to receive an offer as a freshman. For the past three years she has played for Coach Hart and this year will be Coached by program co-founder Don Briggs.

Emily resides and plays at Gorham HS and has led her team to a 12-6 record while scoring 16.2 points per game (3rd in SMAA) and leading the league in rebounds (8.8).

Coach Amy Vachon first noticed the 5’9″ Esposito (nicknamed “Pup”) while playing up for Coach Clement’s team in Tennessee last July before watching her play a number of times this winter. While appreciating her skills and unique athleticism, the Maine coaches also noted her unselfish play, great attitude, and tireless work ethic as they evaluated her.

Coach Briggs was quick to point out her work ethic as well, “Emily Esposito is a tough young woman with outstanding drive. She plays the right way, represents our program well, and is very coachable. Emily is our type of player- competitive, fundamental, unselfish, and humble.”

Co-founder Brian Clement commented, “Emily is an unusual athlete but isn’t satisfied with that gift. She is a fierce competitor, is hungry to improve, works hard every second she’s on the court, and handles herself with excellent poise and humilty. Emily is a special player and she is also an outstanding role model for our younger players.”

The other Firecrackers who have recieved scholarship offers to date are Nina Davenport (SNHU) Olivia Smith (multiple), Allie Clement (multiple), Victoria Lux (multiple) Ashley Briggs (St Anselms), Ashley Storey (UNH), Sarah Clement (UNH), and Mary Butler (Maine and Holy Cross).
