14u advances to AAU championship bracket with 61-25 win
Firecrackers lock up first place in Pool B and open bracket play on Saturday
The Firecrackers closed out pool play on Friday afternoon by defeating Wolves Elite (OH), 61-25, at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports. With the win, and a 3-0 record, the 14u squad locked up first place in Pool B and advances to the championship bracket of the AAU National Championships.
Mackenzie Holmes (Gorham), and Sophie Glidden (Scarborough) led the Firecrackers in scoring with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Faith Blethen (Boothbay) and Emme Poulin (Cheverus) added 9 apiece.
In the first round of championship play, the Maine girls will face Sweet Rebound (FL) at 3:40 PM, Saturday, on Jostens Court 7.
Sweet Rebound is a Broward County, Florida, based AAU club that was founded by former Texas A&M player Toccara Williams. Williams is one of just three players in NCAA history to record more than 1000 points, 450 steals, 700 assists and 400 rebounds. She was drafted by the San Antonio Silverstars of the WNBA in 2004.
