Giardina named Sunshine State Freshman of the Year
Firecracker started 16 games for 12th-ranked, NCAA tournament bound, Florida Southern
Camille Giardina, a first year guard at Florida Southern College, was named the Freshman of the Year by the Sunshine State Conference on Wednesday. She was also named to the SSC All-Newcomer Team.
Giardina earns the Freshman of the Year accolade after averaging 8.5 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game and is shooting 41 percent from the field, 34 percent from the 3-point line and 81 percent (43-for-53) from the free throw line. On the season, Giardina has scored in double figures in 12 games, including a stretch of five straight double-digit scoring efforts in early January. She has played in all 27 games and has made 16 starts this season and is the eighth Moccasin to earn SSC Freshman of the Year honors and first since Megan Dzikas was honored in 2008-09.
