Four Firecrackers named to Telegram All-State team

The Maine Firecrackers fared well in the postseason in the Telegram Girls’ Basketball All-State Team selections.

The Portland Press Herald made the picks public on Sunday. Four Firecrackers were named to the all-stateĀ team, led by Gorham’s Emily Esposito. A three-time all-state selection, the 5’10 junior is the most heavily recruited player in Maine. Esposito led the Rams to the Class AA state crown by averaging 18.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 2.8 assists per game.

Stonehill-bound senior Kelsey Shaw (Mt. Desert Island) was named all-state on heels of a season averaging 17.5 points, 11.4 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 2.6 assists. Shaw wrapped up her high school career with 1,031 points.

Jess Willerson, a 6’2 senior from McAuley, was named all-state for the second time. Willerson, who averaged 18.8 points and 8.4 rebounds, is headed to Cornell in the fall. Willerson also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career, finishing with 1,101 total.

Greely’s Anna DeWolfe was the lone freshman named to the Telegram All-State team. DeWolfe averaged 20.4 points per game, tops in the Western Maine Conference. She also averaged 5.0 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 3.1 assists for the Rangers.
